Oonce in a Madrid night restaurant I happened to observe such a scene. The American, who had taken a fair amount of whiskey, asked the waiter to exchange a large banknote. He quickly counted out a few pieces of paper. Uncle Sam's subject tried to get a good look at them, but he couldn't - he was too drunk for that. Then the American stared at the waiter, waved the bills and said almost clearly:

“Are you sure that everything is OK with this money?”.

The psychological attack was a success. The waiter immediately covered himself with red spots, grabbed the money and muttered:

How to distinguish the products of foreign craftsmen from real money? First of all, it is worth learning: the level of execution of a fake is always lower than the original. Secondly, statistics show that it is US dollars that are most often counterfeited abroad.

Thirdly, there are four universal tricks for recognizing fakes.

1. Counterfeiters mainly use grades of industrial paper that are noticeably thinner or thicker than real paper, more rough and begin to shaggy after 5-6 folds. In addition, linen and cotton are usually included in the composition of the base for making a genuine banknote, which give such money (especially new ones) a special specific smell, some elasticity with slight stretching. Blurry, uneven and slightly crooked lines of a special watermark, plus the presence of a pale gray spot near the signs, is also one of the surest signs that they want to cheat you.
2. In the event that attackers make a hundred-dollar bill from a one-dollar banknote, and, unfortunately, you don’t boom-boom in English, pay attention to the absence (or inconsistency with the face value) of the metallized ribbon, which is now on the money of many countries.
3. Often a fake helps to detect a portrait on the front side. The fact is that portraits on almost all banknotes of the world contain many tiny details that cannot be reproduced without sophisticated printing equipment. It is worth taking a closer look or putting a control bill next to it - and smeared, unreadable elements will catch your eye.
4. Of the most effective counterfeit detectors for a traveler, chemical testers (smart pen) that check the composition of the paper are more suitable than others. These pen-shaped testers react to the starch found in plain paper and are effective 8 out of 10 times. The cost of the testers is in the range of $20-$25.

It is also the most reliable way to check US dollars with a needle. When you pass it with the tip along the lapels of the presidential frock coats, the needle will begin to bounce noticeably. This effect is created through the use of embossed microprinting technology and is virtually uncounterfeitable.

In addition, on the new (latest issued) hundred dollar bills, the number "100" on the front side on the right is designed in such a way that when looking directly at it it is green, and when viewed from the side it is gray.
