MMany of those who arrive in Thailand for a relatively short stay spend a few days in Bangkok first, and then usually go to some island like Koh Samet or look for a beautiful beach on the mainland.
That's right, Thai islands and Thai beaches exist to visit them. They really are worth it. But one question arises - where to go and which island to choose.
If the vacation is planned for a short period of 12-14 days, then there are several suitable options:
- Buy a plane ticket and go from Bangkok to Koh Samui, Phuket or Krabi. Fast, quiet, convenient, but expensive.
- Buy a train or bus ticket for some night route and go to distant islands, use a ferry or boat there. Longer than a plane, more troubles, but it gives you the opportunity to see the surroundings and is cheaper than air travel.
- Orient yourself and choose something within walking distance, for example, a vacation on the island of Koh Samet, which can be reached in 4-5 hours.
How to get to Koh Samet?
The island of Koh Samet is located about 220 km from the capital Thailand and you can get to it in various ways.
The easiest, and almost the cheapest, option is to buy a so-called joint ticket from any travel agency, there are plenty of them. The agency will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the island.
You can get on your own and it will be a little cheaper. First, go to the train station to Ekkamai station, from there to the village of Ban Phe, and then by ferry to the island itself. A combined bus and ferry ticket cost 250 baht. However, at the pier, you can also buy a ferry ticket for 50 baht one way.
What is the best beach on the island?
The common proven choice tells us: the farther from the ferry, the better. However, if someone prefers a lot of tourists, a lot of parties, a lot of pubs and a lot of loud music, then it is best to stay where you arrive by ferry - this can be called the center of the island.
If all these dubious sights do not particularly interest you, then I recommend going somewhere far away. I can recommend Ao Thian beach.
Remember that Ko Samet is a national park, which, unfortunately, looks less and less like a place where nature is under special protection. Tourism infrastructure penetrates everywhere and there are practically no restrictions in this regard. This is most noticeable on the main beach, however, as on all the islands.
Yet in relatively distant charming bays, no matter what, just wonderful. And in general, everything is not bad: beautiful houses by the beach, atmospheric restaurants with reasonable prices for the islands, and at the same time, relaxation and peace around.
What can you do on the island of Koh Samet?
Perhaps my thought will seem seditious to someone, but on such an island you don’t really need to occupy yourself with anything. Relax, sunbathe, swim, in general, relax to the fullest.
Be sure to go to a few sessions of Thai massage, after the session, take a sunbath in partial shade with a cold delicious cocktail in your hands or a jar of Chang.
You can also take a leisurely walk along the bays of Koh Samet. I understand that such a pastime can bother someone. But let's remember that we're here for a few days. So, it’s really worth relaxing and not looking for adventure. Compare this place to another well-known tourist destination - the skeleton Koh Samui.
