Revealed the danger of coffee on board the plane

Why you should give up coffee and tea in flight...

FROMThe flight attendant revealed the dangers of drinking coffee and other drinks on board the plane. VICE US published an interview with flight attendant "Betty", an employee of a major airline. On condition of anonymity, she spoke about the dangers of drinking coffee prepared on board the aircraft.

For those who cannot imagine their life without coffee, ordering this invigorating drink on board an airplane will seem quite natural. At what lovers of cheerfulness are not embarrassed by the far from the best taste qualities of this drink. But it's not even in these qualities of hot drinks.

It is highly recommended that you buy yourself a coffee at the airport rather than waiting for the flight attendants to start moving down the aisle handing out steaming cups.

In fact, this is not good news for tea drinkers either, since its preparation is also associated with water, which is used by flight attendants in flight.

According to the flight attendant, although these are not only her words, but the generally accepted practice, for preparing hot drinks on board, tap water. And here immediately arises several possible problems.

  • Research and analysis results of "on-board" water in most cases show the presence of various bacteria in it, up to Escherichia coli.
  • The water that is used to prepare hot drinks does not go through the boiling process and therefore there is no need to talk about its temperature disinfection.
  • Water tanks are not washed regularly, and powerful chemicals are used to clean them.

So it is not known which is better: either water from an unwashed tank, or water from a tank after a “chemical attack”. Advice simple: the best way out in this situation would be to purchase a couple of bottles of clean drinking water before the flight. Or order exclusively bottled drinks on board the aircraft.

According to a 2015 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, there are more microorganisms in vehicles that are used to carry water than in the original source, leading to their transfer to aircraft water tanks.

The flight attendant also advised using antiseptic gel and antibacterial wipes after you washed your hands in the toilet on board the aircraft. In a word, 100% on-board water cannot be considered drinkable and can not be relied upon as a reliable means of personal hygiene.
