ANDInteresting news came from Thailand. The fact is that the Cabinet of Ministers of this country approved a proposal to introduce certain amendments to the legislation regulating the circulation of narcotic substances in the kingdom. We are talking about Cannabis sativa L..

The approved amendments will make it quite legal for doctors, patients with certain and officially confirmed diseases, and even followers of traditional Thai medicine to plant and cultivate the well-known plant from the genus of annual bast-fiber plants - Cannabis sativa L., for both commercial and personal purposes.

Thailand's Narcotics Trafficking Law has already been amended, and as of last year, cannabis-derived products have been allowed for medical purposes only. However, Minister Anutin insists on a wider use of the capabilities of this world-famous plant.

The new amendment, if passed, would allow patients with a medical certificate confirming the disease, current physicians and practitioners of conventional medicine to cultivate cannabis for purely medical purposes, she said.

She believes that the proposed changes to the law will give manufacturers of medical products a real opportunity to import, export or possess category 5 drugs that were produced from Cannabis.

The current law allows the cultivation of Cannabis sativa L. only by government agencies or by those who request a special permit.

“In any case, everything rests on state institutions. At the same time, active doctors and traditional healers are not allowed to grow Cannabis for medical purposes.” - said Anutina Charnvirakula [East. bangkokpost.com]

According to her, the draft amendments also allow the use of plants confiscated in the fight against illegal and illegal trafficking for the production of legal medicines.

When preparing amendments to the law in June this year, the Ministry of Health held public hearings in order to find out people's opinion about the proposed changes. In general, the citizens approved the proposals voiced.

Now the bill will be sent to the office of the State Council for consideration, and then submitted for approval to the coordinating commission of the House of Representatives. The group will then pass it on to the lower house.

Doctor Chaloem Hanfanit, president of the Association of Private Hospitals, said he had submitted a request to the House Public Health Committee to allow private hospitals to distribute medical cannabis to their patients.

The minister explained that since the proposed amendments are aimed at simplifying the system of sick citizens to cannabis products, then private companies, especially those that produce medicines, will be able to request permission to grow marijuana.
