Temple of human bones. Monk carver from Kutná Hora.

HThis temple is located in the Czech town Kutna Hora and is highly promoted as a tourist attraction. In fact, this is not a temple, but a church, but the impression that it makes from this does not fade at all.

How did the church in Kutna Hora appear in its present form

The history of the Church of All Saints, and it is called that, resembles a typical religious "Santa Barbara", when thousands of people wanted to be buried in the courtyard of this church, because back in the 13th century, handfuls of holy Israeli land were brought to Kutna Hora from Israel and scattered one at the local cemetery.

People were dying regularly, rumors of a cemetery with holy ground spread throughout Czech Republic, the cemetery grew and soon became unreasonably large. And then an idea came into one bright monastic head:

  • open graves;
  • remove bones;
  • collect the bones in a special ossuary (it’s a sin to throw it away!)

So slowly, surely, about five hundred or so years passed, until one bored monk, part-time woodcarver, appeared in this area. He then decided that the bones in the ossuary were folded boringly and artlessly.

Such an unusual atmosphere greets visitors to this attraction of the Czech Republic

Many years of painstaking work in the spirit of the song "The King and the Jester" ("... I sit at night, I watch with a knife, I cut figures out of bones ...") - and now this temple is one of the main tourist attractions of the Czech Republic!

Life hack for the most economical and courageous

Entrance to the church, of course, is paid, but if there is a passionate desire to save a little Czech crowns, then there is a working option. Not entirely fair, but for someone it will do.

You can pretend to be a tour guide of a group that will come to see this temple in the amount of 30-40 people next weekend. Ask how much tickets cost (for adults and children), where are the toilets on the territory, where you can put buses, do you need to order a local guide in advance, etc.

And at the end of the conversation, politely ask: “Can I take a look out of the corner of my eye, take photographs for reporting?” “Yes, of course, come in!” Here is such a life hack on the verge of shame and conscience and Travelgide.ru does not recommend it.

Do not compare the Church of All Saints with St. Vitus Cathedrallocated in Prague. A completely different atmosphere, scale and meaning of the visit.

However, the place is fantastically cool: everyone must see. But go on a tour only on weekdays, otherwise there will be more tourists inside than those very notorious bones. Yes, human remains are an excellent ornamental material. Photo evidence.
