One fact from the life of the country
Ernest Hemingway, author of the world-famous novel “The Old Man and the Sea,” lived intermittently in 1932-1940 in Cuba in room No. 511 of the respectable Ambos Mundos Hotel in Havana. It was this city that inspired the writer, and in a modest hotel room he created the world-famous novel “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” It is known that Hemingway liked to visit his favorite bars - Bodeguita del Medio, where he enjoyed a mojito, and El Floridita on the corner of Avenida de Belgica and Calle Obispo.
Despite his complex character and adventurous streak, Hemingway remains unquestionably the most beloved American in Cuba to this day. The writer’s strong friendship with the Cubans is evidenced by his Nobel medal in literature from the mid-1950s, which is now carefully kept in a bank safe in Santiago de Cuba.
